Maps for Medicines That Feed Us

Visual Collaborations
Margot Lystra / Stacey Langwick

For her book Medicines That Feed Us: Plants, Healing, and Sovereignty in a Toxic World, Stacey A. Langwick needed a series of small greyscale maps that could orient readers to the region, communities, and organizations described in the text. Especially given the embodied nature of Langwick’s work and the book’s subject, it was important that these maps offer the reader, not just an understanding of location, but a feel of place. Margot worked collaboratively with Stacey to create hand-drawn, hand-lettered images that could orient readers to both geographic position, and the way of seeing and relating that is central to the work.
